Useful Fibre Glass Application Information

All pools must be covered to the standard shown in any of the three examples below. If you need assistance configuring a cover to the specification we require please send us some photos of the pools location and we'll design the cover for you. Our booking schedule will prioritize pools covered by scaffolded roofs.

This cover below is perfect. It gives good access to our operatives, allowing plenty of light in yet keeping strong sunlight out.  Rain is shed away rather than standing on the cover causing it to sag.  It is critical for us to have covers built over the pond such as this and the other examples below.

Fibreglass must not be allowed to get wet whilst being applied to your pool. Topcoat must be kept dry until it has hardened properly. We advise a covering system is used to cover the pool for a day after the fibreglass work is complete. Please leave enough working height if we work during inclement weather.

The pool surface should be dry before the application of the fibreglass. We can however use the appropriate sealers over persistently damp areas prior to the application of the fibreglass.

If you require any assistance with the above please contact us.

Although our fibreglass system is the best way to waterproof your koi pond, the raw materials are intolerant of being rained on until fully hardened.  It is with this in mind and to avoid us having to make further chargeable visits to seal your pond that we INSIST every pond is covered to the following standard.

A covered roof that will shed water rather than allow it to stand.  Do not underestimate the weight of rain water even after a shower of a few minutes!

Enough working room around and above the pond to allow our operatives to work in comfort with easy access in and out of the pond. Please do not use thick black polythene to cover the pond with as this blocks out valuable light especially during the winter. Use good quality tarpaulins instead of cheap ones that will rip and let water in.

For examples of properly built covering systems please see the pictures.

Single piece tarpaulins were secured over this frame in Essex in November 2005.  The pond was successfully sealed during very hard, driving rain.  Notice how the frame is pitched and extends well over the edges of the pond to shed rainwater.

This pond was covered using hired scaffolding.  8' by 4' plywood and tarpaulins were then fixed to the scaffolding to ensure the pond was kept waterproof on the day the fibreglass was applied.  It was a good job as there was torrential rain in Bradford that day!

If your pond is simply too large to cover cost effectively please discuss this with us during consultations.

Please also ensure that all equipment, skimmers / return pipework etc are fully fitted to the pond prior to our arrival. Dust and debris should be removed from the pond the day before our arrival. Water should be removed from the bottom drains as we seal into the bottom drains with all of our GRP systems. The tops of the walls should be free from obstructions as we apply the fibreglass system over the top of the wall in the majority of cases.

For advice on constructing your cover please send us pictures of the job and we'll be happy to advise you accordingly.
